Scientific Research on the Chitin–Glucan–Melanin Complex

Structured laboratory, experimental, and clinical observational research documentation.

Overview

Fundevit is based on a chitin–glucan–melanin biopolymer complex derived from the fruiting bodies of Fomes fomentarius. This complex has been investigated in laboratory, experimental, and clinical observational settings since the 1990s.

Research activities were conducted with participation of scientists affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and medical research institutions in Kyiv. Key contributors to early investigations include Leontiy F. Gorovoy and Olga F. Seniuk, along with collaborators in gastroenterology, immunology, and biomedical research programs.

Studied Biopolymer Structure

Published investigations describe two primary structural forms:

  • Water-soluble melanin–glucan complex (MGC)
  • Insoluble chitin–glucan–melanin complex (ChGMC)

The preserved matrix contains:

  • chitin microfibrils
  • beta-glucans
  • fungal melanins

The intact structural complex was evaluated for biological interaction, sorption properties, and immunomodulatory activity.
